This is probably one of the best ambient soundtracks you can own. Ever. Ambient music usually puts me to sleep, and I don't go to sleep because I'm in a relaxed state, but because I'm so bored. This doesn't do that to you. Some of the music is on the spectrum of being classical in nature, and in fact, some of the tracks are all re-done in orchestra fashion, but for the most part, you got yourself an ambient album here.

The first five tracks were re-done and you have classic themes getting the classical treatment, with one taking a fake techno route. Theme Of Super Metroid is pretty sweet and sounds more dramatic than the game's version. The little voice of "The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace." voice is still there, which is more of nostalgic purposes.

The SNES' soundboard of these tunes sounds somewhat silly at times and lacks the energy and earnestness I know they were trying to convey. Track 9 for instance, Ridley's Chamber isn't scary at all. It's more of a bunch of arranged keyboard strokes.

Kraids Chamber, Track 10 has more rhythm than Ridley's did. Crateria is more of ambient piece, with the melody being carried by various string pieces more so than anything else. Brinstar Overgrown With Vegetation Area is another song that relies heavily on the string arrangement.

My personal favorite from the group is the next song, Track 21, Norfair Hot Lava Area. The voice chant in the background is very smooth, and somewhat haunting. An eerie feeling falls on you while listening to that track.

The OST to Super Metroid doesn't have anything outstanding on it. Just like the game, you’re either a fan of it and thus will want it, or can't understand the idea of jumping on platforms all day and hate this. Whatever your fancy is, use that to dictate whether or not to get this album.
