There's no beating around the bush with this soundtrack. I don't think I can even give it that much praise. This soundtrack is just plain BORING. I'll mention the good, the little that it possess first, before I continue with the bad.
The song Kyo-Ki is pretty nice. A synth guitar makes an appearance amidst the mechanical sounds. The drumbeat is pretty much laid back, as the main synth rhythm helps tries to tug the song along. The problem this song suffers, though not as much as the rest of the soundtrack, is that the song is dragged out. The most disappointing thing, especially with this song, is that it's not even 4:00 minutes long, yet it seems so much more.
Now the bad. I-Gyo Air and I-Gyo Water are some of the most boring tracks I've ever chanced to listen to. They essentially are the same songs, with a different sound effect. I-Gyo Water is the dumbed down version of the song. In the game, this stage had two parts, one above the water and one below the water. The music would only become more eerie and sound like this when you would go underneath the water. It was one of the coolest effects I've seen in a video game that was done to music, but the song isn't any fun to listen to without the visual aids.
I had some minor hope for Kaku-Sei when halfway through the song they had a very dramatic brass section. Unfortunately, they didn't follow through too well and the song immediately dropped back to the "spooky" sound effects it was using during the whole soundtrack.
I won't bore you with anymore examples of bad songs on this album, because they all are a letdown. This is truly a bad album that isn't even good enough for background music. Nothing seems to fit and mold together and it has a really rushed feel to it. Avoid it, even in mp3 format if you will.
