Konami's 6th entry into the Dance Dance foray isn't the best and leaves much to be desired, but at least the hits that are on here will keep you entertained for the limited time being.
The general feel of this Mix is rave. About 80% of the songs featured here have a very distinct Rave feel. And that's not a really good thing, especially when they all sound the same. Do You Remember Me and Yozora no Muko sound almost the same, musically wise with the sound effects. I'm In the Mood for Dancing and Somewhere over the Rainbow is inanely boring, making anyone who's first experience with the game is through these songs taint the whole image of the series.
Many familiar faces return this time around as usual. Joga is here with Bye Bye Baby Balloon, which sounds JUST like Joga's Dam Darion from the 3rd Mix. Stone Brothers and their fiftieth incarnation of Let The Beat Hit Them are back with the Classic R&B Style. The sounds used in this song are very reminiscent of the older R&B songs of the mid to late 90's. Almost wish the full version of the song was available instead of the 1:30 second version.
RevenG is also back with his nationalist songs, this time called Exotic Ethnic, which sounds a bit like an Indian song. It places you in a very relaxed mood but is still able to remain upbeat at the same time. His other song is also on here, in remixed form, Orion.78 (Civilization Mix) by famed remixer 2MB. I still don't know what to think of this song. Too many images pop into my head when purely listening to the song making it a bit hard to enjoy. A very hard song to dance to, as well. The best way to describe it is country elements, little wild island girls singing, and many various sound effects thrown together in no real fashion.
Twilight Zone is also on here, with a nice take from the old Mortal Kombat song done by KMFDM. Very upbeat, followed by Witch Doctor, the old hit with a dance beat behind it.
Definitely one of the standout titles on this mix is Healing Vision - Angelic Mix. One of the best mixes that 2MB did. This song is based off the thought of someone about to die in a hospital bed. The light that he sees, it getting brighter and brighter as he reaches death. The constant "beep-beep" of his heart being monitored in the back of the song gives it even more intensity. Unfortunately, not even this song could save this low point in the Dance Dance series.
If I can just nag on one more point. What they did to the theme song of Rurouni Kenshin is just wrong. One of the most upbeat anime intro that's actually good gets the worst treatment in the song Freckles. Not only are the lyrics on this version of the RK take awful and sung in English, but they SLOWED the song down some and lowered the intensity of it all. Why, I'll never know.
This is NOT an album you should rush out to buy. What with all these sound-a-like songs present, you'll be better to go out and buy the 3rd Mix CD or the 5th, a much better treat. Save your cash on this lackluster album for the two aforementioned albums.
